1. make sure you name is on it and the person giving it to you has signed.
2. make sure you sign the back
3. it always easier to walk in the bank and deposit it cause then it is done right then and there.
i deposited a check through the atm for the first time and it has been taking over two weeks to go on my card cause i did not sign the back of it. It also took that long cause i used the atm deposit system. i never knew you had to sign the back maybe this can be helpful even knowing it will be faster to go to a teller instead of using the atm for a deposit

This is important information to know.
A check is like a small legal personal contract...it's a promise to pay. So, be sure your name is spelled exactly correctly. Most banks won't honor a check if a nickname is used instead of your legal name (the name on the identification you used to open the account) is written. Make sure the date is correct (this is especially a problem at the beginning of a new year when people often write the old year on the date). Make sure the amount written is correct - including the spelling of the amount. And, as stated above MAKE SURE THE CHECK IS SIGNED. You'll be bummed if it isn't cuz the check is no good unless signed. NEVER sign someone else's name on a check.
